OHMG was appointed as the main contractor for the Newforge Sports Complex & Event Hub, a £5.8 million shared space development located on a 16-hectare site in South Belfast. Formerly a police sports centre, the facility is being transformed by the Newforge Community Development Trust into an open and inclusive community hub. The project embodies a vision of peace, reconciliation, and social integration across Northern Ireland and the wider cross-border region.
The development is designed to encourage co-existence and shared use among a wide range of community groups — including youth and sports clubs, local residents, schools, churches, and members of the security, emergency, and armed forces. This inclusive approach positions the complex as a unifying space that promotes engagement and mutual understanding through sport and community activity.
Spanning 5,286 square metres, the facility features a shared reception, large sports hall, fitness suites, treatment and changing rooms, multi-purpose areas, a refreshment area, office and conference rooms, along with landscaped surroundings and parking facilities. These elements are carefully designed to create a versatile, welcoming environment capable of supporting both sporting and social events.
A central goal of the project is to achieve Disability Sport NI’s Inclusive Sports Facility Excellence Mark, ensuring the complex is accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to all users. This reflects OHMG’s dedication to building spaces that serve the entire community, promoting equality, participation, and wellbeing through thoughtful design and construction excellence.
