Since our foundation in 1972, OHMG has emerged as a pioneering, chartered construction firm, celebrated for its excellence across Ireland. Operating from our base in Newry, Co Down, our dedicated team of over 130 professionals generates an impressive annual turnover surpassing £80 million. Our expertise encompasses a broad range of sectors including Education, Healthcare, Sport, Residential, Commercial, and Hospitality, focusing on new build and fit-out projects.

Our History Timeline

Founded

OHMG was founded, with Noel O’Hare as the Managing Director.

1972

First Project

First monumental build, Buttercrane Shopping Centre.

1988

Boots Partnership

The beginning of a long-lasting partnership with Boots PLC.

1996

Construction of Quays Shopping Centre

Construction of Quays Shopping Centre, Newry, including the fit out’s of; River Island, Next, HMV, Topshop/Topman, Miss Selfridge, H&M, Sainsburys and Debenhams.

1999

Becomes Charted

OHMG becomes a Chartered Construction Company.

2001

Our first PPP School

Our first PPP school was constructed – a project involving design, construction and finance of 3 new colleges; Downpatrick, Ballynahinch and Newcastle.

2002

Construction of Teaching Facility

Construction of Teaching Facility Building for National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

2004

Further Higher Education Builds

PPP Framework of Further Higher Education Builds including South West College, Omagh, Co. Tyrone and SouthWest College, Dungannon, Co. Tyrone

2002

QUB Elms Build

Construction of QUB Elms PHASE 2 & 5-10

2007

Holy Cross College, Strabane

PPP Holy Cross College, Strabane. Design & Build (23,500m2) new replacement College

2008

McClay Library and Maths Building

Construction of the McClay Library and Maths Building, Queen’s University Belfast.

2009

Construction of Obel Tower

Construction of Obel Tower, famously known as Ireland’s tallest building to date, standing at 88.31 meters high.

2009

RICS Sustainability Award

Awarded the Winner of UK wide RICS Sustainability Award – The McClay Library & Maths Building.

2010

Boots Donegal Place Refurbishment

Completed the refurbishment of Boots Chemist Donegal Place. One of the largest Boot’s stores in Northern Ireland.

College PPP Constructions

PPP of Newry Mourne Down College Project, including South East Regional College, Downpatrick, Ballynahinch & Newcastle, Co. Down

The PPP Construction of St Cecilia’s College

The PPP Construction of St Cecilia’s College, Derry for St Candice’s Educational Trust/ Belfast Educational Services

2011

Venturing into the UK

OHMG began their first venture into GB. Our first contract was Stonehaven Aberdeenshire Residential Houses.

2012

Construction of Ballymena Health Care Centre

Construction of Ballymena Health Care Centre. This build was Northern Ireland’s First Combined Health & Social Care Centre. It was awarded Best Primary Care Development UK 2016

2015

Construction of Wellcome-Wolfson Building

Construction of Wellcome-Wolfson Building – Centre for Experimental Medicine, Queen’s University Belfast

2015

Martin Lennon was appointed the Managing Director of OHMG

2016

Redevelopment and rebuild of the IFA National Stadium

2016

Second time winning CEF Awards Overall Winner for Windsor Park Stadium build

2016

Our Project Manager wins Ireland’s Construction Manager of the Year Award.

2017

Our first Great Britain Construction Award Winner – Boroughmuir High School – Building of the Year (Scotland).

2018

Construction of the School of Biological Science, Queen’s University Belfast. CEF Educational Infrastructure Building of the Year 2019

2019

After winning the CEF Educational Infrastructure Building of the Year, OHMG has completed 50 Award-winning projects

2019

Award of DVA’s new Flagship Development at Hydebank, Belfast.

2020

Construction starts on the new Lismore Comprehensive School, Craigavon.

2021

Works begins at the Coca Cola Plant at Knockmore Hill, Lisburn.

2022

OHMG commences new Partnership with Dublin City Council on a Multi-Party Framework Agreement for projects in excess €5m.

OHMG have been at the forefront of delivering several projects to BIM level 2. In partnership with BMET, staff at all levels receive BIMcert training which will ensure OHMG are ready for BIM level 3 implementation.

OHMG have won over 20 quality, partnership and sustainability awards which reflects the commitment and professionalism of our staff.

OHMG have successfully delivered complex projects including Design and Build schemes, by working collaboratively with our clients and fully embracing new technologies, innovations and sustainable construction processes.

We have fully embraced the Deming Cycle of Plan, Do, Check, Act which delivers continuous improvement designed to satisfy our clients and end users by guaranteeing quality buildings.
