The project involves the construction of a contemporary two-storey secondary school, covering approximately 9,230m², on an undeveloped greenfield site. Designed and delivered by OHMG, this forward-thinking educational facility will be built in full compliance with the Technical Guidance Documents (TGD) and will achieve Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) standards — reflecting OHMG’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and excellence in educational design.

Comprehensive Facilities for Learning and Inclusion

The new school will feature a range of purpose-built learning and recreational spaces, including a multipurpose hall, general-purpose hall, and a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) unit. Each element of the design is focused on fostering inclusivity, flexibility, and wellbeing, ensuring the building supports a rich and diverse educational experience.

Extensive External Works and Infrastructure Upgrades

The project also encompasses significant external site works and infrastructure improvements, including:

  • A new junction connection to Athy Road

  • A newly constructed internal access road

  • Designated drop-off zones and on-site parking

  • Four basketball courts and a grass playing field

  • Major upgrades to surface and foul water infrastructure extending beyond the site boundary

These works ensure safe accessibility, enhanced functionality, and long-term resilience for the school and surrounding community.

Sustainable Construction in a Parkland Setting

Situated within a picturesque parkland environment, the site is surrounded by mature woodlands, which will be carefully preserved and protected throughout construction. The deep layer of existing topsoil will be excavated, stored, and reused on-site, supporting the project’s environmental sustainability goals while maintaining the natural landscape character.

Building for the Future of Education and the Environment

This project exemplifies OHMG’s expertise in delivering high-performance educational facilities that balance architectural quality, environmental responsibility, and community value. The new secondary school will provide a sustainable, inspiring, and inclusive learning environment, setting a new benchmark for modern education infrastructure in Ireland.
