The Rutland Street School Refurbishment Project involves the comprehensive restoration and modernisation of the existing four-storey school building, spanning approximately 2,887m². This transformative scheme aims to rejuvenate one of Dublin’s notable educational structures, combining heritage preservation with innovative new construction to create a modern, functional learning environment.
The project includes the creation of a new infill section to the rear of the building across all floor levels, alongside the addition of a mezzanine plant level at roof height. A further extension at garden level enhances the building’s accessibility and usability. In parallel, extensive site works and new service installations are being carried out to ensure long-term operational efficiency and infrastructure resilience.
Beyond the main building works, the project also features public realm improvements, including the realignment of the existing front road and modifications to boundary walls and railings. These enhancements will improve both pedestrian access and the aesthetic integration of the school within its surrounding streetscape.
By combining careful refurbishment with sensitive new interventions, OHMG is helping to preserve the architectural integrity of the Rutland Street School while ensuring it meets the needs of contemporary education. This project reflects OHMG’s strength in delivering complex restoration works that honour historic character while providing modern functionality and community value.
