OHMG were appointed as the Main Contractor to provide a new Day Surgery and Pre-Assessment Unit. The works were located at the old Accident and Emergency Department on the ground floor of the Tower Block at Belfast City Hospital. The A&E Department was refurbished and converted to provide a Pre-Assessment Area with 16 patient spaces, a new Day Surgery consisting of approximately 25 patient spaces, triage/discharge rooms, a seminar room, staff offices, and associated ancillary spaces.
Key elements of the works included the removal of asbestos-containing materials, reconfiguration of existing internal partitions, and the installation of new flooring, ceilings, doors, and decoration. Specialist M&E installations comprised medical gas pipework, ventilation ductwork, fire and smoke dampers, nurse call systems, fire alarms, and IT infrastructure. Additionally, the project included upgrading fire compartmentation in line with ongoing works in other areas of the Tower Block.
Our works were undertaken within the live wards and administration zones, necessitating close consultation with BHSCT to minimise disruption throughout the contract.
