Overview

This building was established to provide a greater understanding of the mechanisms of disease and improve patient outcomes. The 9,000m2 facility accommodates 330 members of staff specialising in research to find cures for eye disease, diabetes and the development of a global programme to assist in the understanding of the genetics of chronic diseases.
A key feature of the building is the twin skin exterior envelope which improves the thermal performance of the facility. The central atrium is the focal point of the Institute and is designed to accommodate meetings, displays and conferences. The building received an environment BREAMM rating of ‘Excellent’ as it incorporates a range of measures to lower carbon emissions and delivers a more sustainable building.
