Sub-Contract Buyer
POST: Sub-Contract Buyer
Reporting to: Senior Buyer & Commercial Director
Summary of Position Reporting to the Senior Buyer and liaising with Sub-contractors to agree the most favourable terms possible for each work package within the procurement schedule.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Support the commercial and contracts team, providing value engineered options for materials and sub-contract packages
- Identifying potential sub-contractors and new products
- Produce procurement schedules and report on same
- Ability to expedite quotes to ensure timely appointment of sub-contractors
- Be able to deliverer cost savings and reductions and meet commercial targets and budgets set by senior management team
- Ability to read construction, civil and architectural drawings and specifications. Ability to read and interpret BOQ’s, construction contracts and other commercial documents.
- Attend site management meetings and report on procurement progress and potential issues
- Ability to manage the procurement process for a variety of different construction projects running concurrently.
- Obtaining quotes from a range of sub-contractors for all packages included in project plans and drawings
- Agreeing delivery times
- Keeping detailed records and maintaining well‐organised work schedules
- Assessing the reliability of sub‐contractors and suppliers
- Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials
- Obtaining and forwarding information on Equal and approved materials
- Ensuring compliance with the safety, health and environment requirements of materials and services
- A self-starter who can work on their own initiative within a fast paced environment with the ability to drive the procurement process forward.
- Preparing and maintaining cost reports in order to maximise efficiency within the business
- Negotiating and agreeing the most favourable terms possible with suppliers & Sub-contractors
- Competent in the use of Conquest and Redsky
- Saving of information to OHMG’s Common Data Environment (Dalux) as per existing folder structure
- Ensure compliance with H & S responsibilities as outlined in the Company Policy
- Compliance with ISO 9001, 14,001 & ISO 45,001 Management Systems
Essential criterion
- Construction related degree
- 3 years relevant experience
Desirable criterion
- Working knowledge of Conquest and Redsky
- Attained or working towards membership of RICS/MCIOB
